Things to Do in New Rochelle This Weekend: July 31–August 2

Happy almost-weekend, New Rochelle! We've got a great stretch ahead, and the best part is that nearly everything on this list is free. From a downtown reggae concert to a splash party for the kids, here's where to be from Friday through Sunday.

Friday, July 31 — Family & Library Fun

The New Rochelle Public Library is the place to be if you've got little ones or bored tweens at home. Toddler Time runs at 11:00 AM for ages 18 months–3 years, building literacy and motor skills through stories and songs. Over at the Huguenot Children's Library, Yoga Tots (10:30 AM and 11:00 AM sessions) helps kids ages 2–4 find their calm with Budding Buddhas instructors — pure delight.

Come afternoon, the library turns into tween-and-teen central. Let's Go Legos! at 3:00 PM is a free-build block party for ages 2–12, while grades 6–12 can drop into Game & Watch for Switch, PS5 and Xbox, jump into VR Game Night on the Oculus Quest 3, or make a keepsake at Adventure Notebook in the Teen Room — no registration needed.

Need a hand with forms, resumes or tech? One-on-One Assistance is available at 10:00 AM and again at 2:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Help & Learning Center. Free, friendly, and genuinely useful.

Friday Evening — Get Outside

Beat the heat at the Summer Fun Fridays Summer Splash Party at 4:00 PM on Fifth Avenue & Potter Avenue. It's exactly what it sounds like — a splashy, free outdoor bash to close out the week with the neighborhood kids. Bring towels and let them run wild.

Saturday, August 1 — The Big One

Saturday is stacked. The Main Library is open a special summer schedule, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, so pop in while you can. Start the morning grounded with Gentle/Beginner Yoga at 10:30 AM — a restorative Dharma Gentle class perfect for all ages and total beginners.

Then head to Hudson Park for Teen Fest, running 12:00–5:00 PM at 1 Hudson Park Road. It's a free afternoon built for New Rochelle's teens, with the waterfront as your backdrop.

And don't miss the weekend's headliner: the Downtown Summer Sizzle Concert Series: Reggae Bash at 6:30 PM at Library Plaza. Now in its third year, this free outdoor concert brings good vibes and great music downtown — grab a blanket, some friends, and settle in for the evening.

Sunday, August 2 — Slow It Down

Heads up: the New Rochelle Public Library is closed on Summer Sundays through Labor Day weekend. So Sunday's the day to take it easy — maybe a lingering walk along the waterfront or brunch with the family after a full Saturday.

That's the weekend in New Rochelle! Whether you're chasing splash-party giggles or reggae under the summer sky, there's something here for everyone — and almost all of it won't cost you a dime.
