Happy almost-Fourth, New Rochelle! This is a big holiday weekend, and while the library takes a well-earned break, Hudson Park is picking up the slack with free music and fireworks. Here's what's worth your time from Thursday through Sunday.
The library packs in a full day before the long weekend, and most of it is free and drop-in.
Game & Watch — Thursday, July 2 at 3:00 PM, 1 Library Plaza. Tweens and teens in grades 6–12 can hop on the Nintendo Switch, PS5, or Xbox Series X in the Teen Room — bring a friend and no registration needed.
VR Game Night — Thursday, July 2 at 3:00 PM, 1 Library Plaza. Same crowd, but this time it's the Oculus Quest 3, so come try out some immersive gaming for free.
Giant Jenga Night — Thursday, July 2 at 3:00 PM, 1 Library Plaza. Face off against other New Rochelle teens to prove you're the steadiest hand around.
One-on-One Assistance — Thursday, July 2 at 1:00 PM (also at 6:00 PM), 1 Library Plaza. A staff member in the 2nd Floor Help & Learning Center will sit down with you for free help with forms, applications, and more — a genuinely handy neighborhood resource.
The New Rochelle Council on the Arts Summer Sounds series is the highlight of the weekend, and it's completely free by the water.
Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise — Friday, July 3 at 7:30 PM, Hudson Park. This duo blends Hip-Hop, BoomBap, and LoFi into something you can't help but nod along to — a perfect kickoff to the holiday weekend.
Lillimure — Friday, July 3 at 8:00 PM, Hudson Park. Pop artist Lillimure takes the stage alongside Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise, so bring a blanket and settle in for a full evening of free music.
The big one. If you only make it out for one thing this weekend, make it this.
America 250: Downtown Summer Sizzle / Spark the Sound Celebration — Saturday, July 4 from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM, 1 Hudson Park Road. New Rochelle goes all out for Independence Day with an evening of festivities and fireworks over the water — free, festive, and made for the whole family.
The New Rochelle Public Library is closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. It's also closed Sundays through Labor Day weekend for Summer Sundays, so plan your library trips for earlier in the week.
That's the weekend in New Rochelle — a little library fun, two nights of free music at Hudson Park, and a fireworks finale on the Fourth. Whatever you get up to, stay cool and have a great holiday.
