Things to Do in New Rochelle This Weekend: July 17–19

Summer's in full swing, and New Rochelle has a little of everything this weekend—free outdoor concerts, an ice cream pop-up, and plenty for the kids to burn off energy. Here's what your neighbors are checking out July 17–19. Grab a cafecito and let's dig in.

Friday, July 17

The New Rochelle Public Library is the place to be for families all day long. Toddler Time kicks off at 11:00 AM for little ones 18 months to 3 years—stories, songs, and movement to build early skills. Over at Huguenot Children's Library, Yoga Tots (10:30 AM and 11:00 AM sessions) teaches calmness and mindfulness through playful poses for ages 2–4.

By afternoon, the library's Teen Room lights up at 3:00 PM with Game & Watch (Switch, PS5, and Xbox for grades 6–12), VR Game Night on the Oculus Quest 3, and a build-your-own Ice Cream Sandwich while supplies last. Younger kids can join Let's Go Legos! at 3:00 PM for a free-build block party (Duplo included for the tiny hands). All free, no registration required.

Need a hand with forms, applications, or tech? Stop by the library's 2nd Floor Help & Learning Center for One-on-One Assistance at 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM.

Come evening, unwind with Cafecito + Crochet at 5:00 PM at Casaroma Cafe—bring a project or use the supplied materials for beginners, and grab a matcha while you stitch. Then head to Hudson Park at 7:30 PM for Seeing Red, a free New Rochelle Council on the Arts Summer Sounds concert packed with disco, Motown, pop, and rock. Bring a blanket and dance under the sky.

Saturday, July 18

The Main Library is open 10:00 AM–2:00 PM for summer Saturdays if you need a cool, quiet spot.

Ice cream lovers, mark your calendars: Homeschooled Ice Cream is popping up for its soft opening from 5–8 PM at Town House Kitchen + Drinks. Be one of the first in New Rochelle to try it. 🍦

Music fills downtown all evening. The Downtown Summer Sizzle Concert Series brings back the Steepwater Band at 1 Library Plaza starting 6:30 PM—free and always a crowd-pleaser. For something soulful, catch the Wayne Henderson Quartet at 7:00 PM at Alvin & Friends, part of the Friends of New Rochelle Jazz Festival's Jazz in July.

Sports fans can gather at the Boys & Girls Club Soccer Watch Party (79 Seventh St) from 3:00 PM for the 3rd Place Match—a free, festive way to cheer with neighbors.

Sunday, July 19

Taking it easy? Just a heads-up: the New Rochelle Public Library is closed on Sundays through Labor Day weekend. A perfect excuse for a lazy morning or one more scoop of that new ice cream.
