Things to Do in New Rochelle This Weekend: August 28–30

It's the last weekend before Labor Day, and New Rochelle is squeezing every bit of summer out of it. From a street festival on Union Avenue to free music under the stars, here's what's worth stepping out for. Almost everything below is free, so grab a neighbor and go.

Friday, August 28

Homeschooled Ice Cream — 4 PM at Town House Kitchen + Drinks, free to visit. The ice cream window is open Wednesday through Saturday, 4–9 PM, and it's the perfect end-of-summer treat.

Pizza Party — 3 PM at the New Rochelle Public Library, free. Tweens and teens (grades 6–12) can drop by for an end-of-summer slice, while supplies last, no registration needed.

Game & Watch and VR Game Night — both 3 PM in the library Teen Room, free. Switch, PS5, Xbox and the Oculus Quest 3 are all fired up, so bring a friend.

One-on-One Assistance — 10 AM (and again at 2 PM) in the library's 2nd Floor Help & Learning Center, free. A staff member is on hand to help with forms, applications, and tech questions.

Saturday, August 29

Taste of Union Avenue — 1 PM along Union Avenue (First to Fourth Street), free. This street festival packs local restaurants, vendors, kids' activities, and performances into a few blocks — the big one this weekend.

Downtown Summer Sizzle Concert Series @ Ruby Dee Park — 6:30 PM at Ruby Dee Park (1 Library Plaza), free. Live music downtown on a summer evening is about as good as New Rochelle nights get.

Local Love Market at Clinton Park — 1 PM on the plaza at Clinton Park, free. Shop local makers and artisans and meet the neighborhood businesses that make New Rochelle tick.

HYROX HYBRID — 7 AM at RB Fitness, first class free. A functional strength and HYROX-style workout to test your limits before the festival food kicks in.

New Rochelle Mobile Shredding Event — 10 AM–1 PM at 515 North Avenue, free. Bring those old documents and safely clear the clutter.

Main Library Open — 10 AM–2 PM, free. This is the last summer Saturday the Main Library opens its doors, so make it count.

Sunday, August 30

Wellness by the Water: Yoga — 9–10 AM at The Waters Grill, Hudson Park, ticketed. T-Train's Sunday morning series pairs yoga with one of the prettiest waterfront spots in New Rochelle.

Casaroma Cafe Book Club — 11 AM at Casaroma Cafe, free. Grab a coffee and join the last-Sunday-of-the-month conversation; all readers welcome.

Heads up: the New Rochelle Public Library is closed on Sundays through Labor Day weekend, so plan your library trips for Friday or Saturday.
