New Rochelle Events This Week: Free Weeknight Things to Do (Aug 31–Sep 1)

Everybody's got the weekend covered — but the best-kept secret in New Rochelle is how much happens Monday through Thursday. From free yoga and therapy dogs to teen game nights and a lively book club, here's what's on this week that you don't want to miss. Best part? Nearly all of it is free.

Monday Wellness & Civic Help

Start your week grounded. Summer Chair Yoga rolls out Monday, August 31 at 12:30 PM at the New Rochelle Public Library. It's a gentle, no-mat-required session to shake off stress and find some midday focus — free and beginner-friendly.

If your evening calls for a bigger stretch, Multilevel Yoga at 6:15 PM offers a more challenging Dharma practice with modifications for every level.

Need a hand with something practical? The Basics of Medicare Coverage at 10:00 AM brings a bilingual Medicare advisor to the Library to answer your questions — a genuinely useful free resource for New Rochelle neighbors. And all day, the Library's One-on-One Assistance desk (10 AM and 2 PM) has staff ready to help with forms, applications and tech in the 2nd Floor Help & Learning Center.

Job hunting? Swing by the free Job Search Coach session at 5:00 PM for real advice on getting your applications noticed.

Monday for Tweens & Teens (Grades 6–12)

The New Rochelle Public Library turns into teen central every afternoon at 3:00 PM. VR Game Night lets grades 6–12 jump on the Oculus Quest 3 with no registration needed, while Game & Watch has Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X ready to go — bring a friend.

For a mellower vibe, Paws & Relax with a Therapy Dog invites stressed teens to unwind with a registered therapy dog in the Teen Room. Or get creative at 3D Pen Night and build whatever you can imagine.

Grown-up readers, close out the day with the Between Two Worlds Book Club at 6:15 PM, discussing *The Zelmenyaners: A Family Saga* by Moyshe Kulbak — a comic classic and a warm, lively room.

Tuesday: Balance, Games & a Virtual Cooking Class

Tuesday, September 1 opens with Find Your Balance with Tai Chi & Qi Gong at 10:00 AM — a gentle "meditation in motion" to slow down and restore your energy, and it's free. The Library's One-on-One Assistance desk is back at 10 AM and 2 PM for anyone needing help.

At 3:00 PM, teens can pile in for another round of Game & Watch and VR Game Night, or slow it down at Jigsaw Puzzle Night, where everyone pitches in on one big puzzle.

Cooking from home? Log on to The Balaboosta Chef at 6:30 PM, a free virtual demonstration from Townhouse Kitchen & Design full of holiday-ready recipes, tips and techniques.

That's your New Rochelle weeknight lineup — proof there's plenty to do before the weekend even arrives. Want picks like these in your inbox every week? Grab the free weekly digest at happslocal.com and never miss what's happening around New Rochelle.
